Chapter 3 RELATIONAL MODELS AND ALGEBRA FOR UNCERTAIN DATA
نویسندگان
چکیده
Uncertainty in data values is pervasive in all real-world environments and have received a lot of attention in the literature. Over the last decade or so, several extensions to the relational model have been proposed to address the issue of how data uncertainty can be modeled in a comprehensive manner. This chapter provides a summary of the major extensions. We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of these models and show the underlying similarities and differences.

Models for Integrated Information Retrieval and Database Systems
In this paper, we show that there is a mismatch between information retrieval (IR) and database (DB) concepts, and we devise solutions for this problem. DB oriented approaches have to distinguish between the logical and the content structure of objects, and should also consider the layout structure. Data independence—not regarded in IR before—can be achieved by using the notion of vague predica...
متن کاملAn Algebra for Probabilistic Databases
An algebra is presented for a simple probabilistic data model that may be regarded as an extension of the standard relational model. The probabilistic algebra is developed in such a way that (restricted to α -acyclic database schemes) the relational algebra is a homomorphic image of it. Strictly probabilistic results are emphasized. Variations on the basic probabilistic data model are discussed...
متن کاملA Probabilistic Data Model and Its Semantics
As database systems are increasingly being used in advanced applications, it is becoming common that data in these applications contain some elements of uncertainty. These arise from many factors, such as measurement errors and cognitive errors. As such, many researchers have focused on defining comprehensive uncertainty data models of uncertainty database systems. However, existing uncertainty...
متن کاملA Probabilistic NF2 Relational Algebra for Integrated Information Retrieval and Database Systems
The integration of information retrieval (IR) and database systems requires a data model which allows for modelling documents as entities, representing uncertainty and vagueness and performing uncertain inference. For this purpose, we present a probabilistic data model based on relations in non-rst-normal-form (NF2). Here, tuples are assigned probabilistic weights giving the probability that a ...
متن کاملSpatio-temporal Models and Languages: An Approach Based on Constraints
The introduction of spatio-temporal information in database systems presents us with an important data modelling challenge: the design of data models general and powerful enough to handle conventional thematic data, purely temporal or spatial concepts and spatio-temporal concepts. General purpose DBMS (e.g., relational) are not appropriate for storing and manipulating spatio-temporal data becau...
